It’s never too soon to start dreaming about the return of backpacking and hiking season. (Of course, this is desert season, so check out these great trip ideas.) Start working on your bucket list for next season with these 5 Must-Do Backpacking Trips!

There’s a reason why Rocky Mountain National Park is so popular: it’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Try out this 54-mile loop that includes a section of the 3,100-mile CDT. The loop takes in not only some serious terrain (there is some rock hopping in the Trough Couloir at 13,200 ft.) as well as some spectacular scenery: lakes, gorges, glaciers… Backpacker Magazine recommends doing this hike in four days, but you could easily stretch it out to five and spend plenty of time in this breathtaking wilderness.

Three Sisters Loop – Oregon

This 50-mile loop takes in all Three Sisters volcanoes in what makes up some of Oregon’s most spectacular scenery. Cross pumice stone fields, amble through wildflower meadows, camp beside clear mountain lakes, and wander through dense pine forests.

The Escarpment Trail – New York State

Though it’s only 23-miles long, this 2-3 day hike takes in some big views. With views of the Hudson River, Adirondacks, and the Shawangunks, you might want to spend four days in this beautiful countryside.

Sure, Texas might not be the first state that comes to mind when you’re planning your next backpacking trip, but Big Bend National Park has some of the most spectacular scenery in the United States. Situated in far West Texas, Big Bend National Park is comprised of a ecologically and geologically diverse area of the Chihuahuan Desert. The 30-mile Outer Mountain Loop is a strenuous hike, but well worth the views are well worth the effort.

Grafton Loop – Maine

Summit nine different peaks in the rugged Mahoosuc Mountains of Maine. This 38.6-mile trail connects briefly with the Applachian Trail and crosses both public and private land. Be prepared for some serious climbing as this trail is for experienced backpackers only.

As with any backpacking or day-hiking trip, be sure to take good care of your feet. Pack your eNZees Foot Soother to prevent blisters and hot-spots as they occur.
