Gifts for the outdoors person, gifts for hikers, gifts for camping

If you’re anything like me, the hardest people to shop for always seem to be those practical, outdoorsy friends and family. It seems like they always either already own it, or don’t want it, regardless of what “it” is. To try and help this process along, I present to you: a list of perfect gifts for the outdoors-person in your life. Guy or girl, here are some items that any outdoor enthusiast will love.

Camelbak Hydration Pack

The Camelback Hydration Pack is a minimalist bag that holds a 1.5 water reservoir (which is included). It’s super lightweight with one small front pocket and reflective strip for early morning and evening safety.

Garmin eTrex 30x GPS

The Garmin eTrex 30 is a handheld GPS that’s equipped equipped with a 3-axis electronic compass, barometric altimeter, wireless features, WAAS and HotFix. It’s the perfect choice for hikers, backpackers, mountaineers, climbers and other outdoor enthusiasts. If you are after a GPS, don’t forget to check out our guide to the best models for hiking.

Jetboil Flash Cooking System

The Jetboil Flash Cooking System gives you hot drinks or a quick meal in just over two minutes. It’s small, compact and super easy to use. This system is very fuel efficient which means you can carry less fuel canisters than with a traditional gas camp stove.

Gerber Fire Starter

Compact fire starter with ferrocerium rod and metal striker – good addition to your ‘just in case’ gear. Create sparks to ignite tinder. Waterproof, lanyard, integrated whistle.

Trekking Poles

Helpful going both up and down hills, crossing streams… and can reduce knee pain in general. We prefer Black Diamond, with shocks, and flicklock instead of twist-tighten.

Hiking Socks

Sure, socks are a cliché gift… unless they are high quality hiking socks! I prefer Smartwool, Darn Tough and Wrightsocks. ColdGear tops and bottoms help keep winter at bay. We find the fit is tight enough to layer, turning our regular hiking shirts and pants into all-season gear.
